THE PROJECT
The POWER project was conceived to address a concrete need: many people with depression also experience cognitive difficulties (such as problems with memory, attention, or language), which often persist even after depressive symptoms have remitted. These difficulties can significantly impact quality of life and require specific, integrated attention, as pharmacological treatment alone is often not sufficient.
POWER proposes an innovative approach based on non-pharmacological interventions lasting 12 weeks.

Educational sessions on the Mediterranean diet and healthy eating habits
Personalized physical exercise sessions
Personalized cognitive training sessions
Intake of dietary supplements.
With the active involvement of 120 participants in Italy and Taiwan, POWER aims to identify practical solutions to improve mental health in the adult and older population, promoting a healthy and accessible lifestyle.
The results could pave the way for new forms of personalized medicine based on biological markers.
Main objectives
-
Prevent or delay alterations of cognitive functions and reduce depressive symptoms;
-
Analyse the effects of the interventions on inflammation, metabolism, and gut microbiota;
-
Identify predictive biomarkers of treatment response;
-
Demonstrate the causal role of the gut microbiota through animal model studies.
Study duration
The study will last three years, starting on March 1, 2025 and ending on March 1, 2028.
